Hi there, and welcome — I’m Brandy Lawhon, a dyslexic author, mother, and storyteller who believes that even our hardest chapters can become something beautiful.
I grew up in a world where dyslexia had no name — only confusion. Words twisted, letters danced, and understanding felt like chasing light through fog. But even then, my heart spoke the language of resilience, faith, and love.
Today, I’m not just a writer — I’m a mother, an advocate, and a voice for the children who can’t always explain what’s happening inside their minds. Through my memoir When the Letters Danced and my blog, I open my heart to parents, teachers, and anyone who’s ever felt unseen.
My writing is raw and faith-filled — a mix of pain and purpose, honesty and hope. I share my story to remind others that every struggle carries a light, and even the most broken moments can become something beautiful.
As a mother of a child with dyslexia — and someone who’s lived it myself — I understand the struggle from both sides. My journey is proof that with love, faith, and understanding, the hardest battles can still bloom into something extraordinary.
I believe change must happen within our school systems — no child with a learning disability should ever be left behind. Every child deserves to be seen, supported, and understood. I also believe new laws must be created to protect children’s rights — stronger protections, fairer education, and real accountability for a system that too often overlooks those who need help the most. There should be different rules for students with learning disabilities, not to separate them, but to give them what they truly need — and they should never be treated differently because of how they learn.
My words are more than stories — they’re reminders that healing begins the moment we stop hiding the truth.
This space — our space — was created to:
- Share my story and the lessons I learned through faith and perseverance.
- Provide resources, tools, and encouragement for families walking the same path.
- Open real conversations between parents, teachers, and children about learning differences and emotional struggles.
- Offer a community of love, light, and understanding — because no child should feel alone in their learning journey.
You’ll find:
- Updates on my book and projects.
- supporting children with dyslexia or anxiety.
- Personal reflections on dyslexia, motherhood, and faith.
A way to reach out directly if you need guidance, resources, or just a listening ear.
Because sometimes, the most powerful stories are the ones that help others see through someone else’s eyes. And if my story can help one child, one parent, or one teacher see the light hidden in the struggle — then every letter that danced was worth it.
A Child of God — My Faith, My Light, My Strength
I’ve been a child of God for as long as I can remember. I’m not afraid to say that Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I accepted Him into my heart when I was 10 years old, a little girl who didn’t understand the world yet, but I knew He was real. I knew He loved me enough to die on the cross for my sins, and ever since that day, He has been the strength that carries me through every chapter of my life.
I’m not perfect. I’ve made mistakes, I’ve stumbled, I’ve fallen flat on the floor more times than I can count. But God has always picked me back up. His forgiveness, His love, and His grace are what kept me standing through all my trials and tribulations. I love the Lord with everything in me, because without His strength I wouldn’t be here. He gave me the heart I have — the one that keeps loving, forgiving, letting go, and choosing light even after being hurt.
I’ve been through hell and back, maybe more than people could ever imagine. But I didn’t lose my light. I kept it. And that light is what helps me walk into the dark places that once scared me and make them brighter. I don’t stay in the darkness, because God placed a light inside me that refuses to go out.
God has always been my rock, my peace, my home — the place where I feel safe no matter what is happening around me. Every lesson in my life, good or bad, I take it as something to learn from, something to grow through, another chapter in my story that shaped me, not broke me. God didn’t put me through anything to punish me. He gave me purpose.
People say, “Never judge a book by its cover until you read it.” And that’s how I see myself. I don’t walk through life as a victim or as someone defined by what I’ve been through. I walk as someone God has carried, strengthened, and rebuilt. I walk as His child — with light in my hands and purpose in my steps.
Our approach
When the Letters Danced isn’t just another educational resource — it’s a story that feels. Where most programs focus on fixing the way a child learns, When the Letters Danced focuses on seeing the child behind the struggle — their heart, emotions, faith, and imagination.
This isn’t about worksheets or test scores. It’s about connection, compassion, and storytelling. Through real-life experiences, faith-infused lessons, and whimsical, magical imagery, Brandy Lawhon helps parents, teachers, and children step into the world of a child with dyslexia — to feel what it’s like when letters come alive and dance.
